Dear Mr Nelson Mandela
As a young South African, I was a professional footballer who could only aspire to play for the best football club in South Africa. Then, through the political struggle, freedom came and the world was my oyster, and through your inspiration and leadership, I could now represent the land of my birth, travel the world and live my dream.
The "Bafana Bafana" team of 1996 had a dream of conquering Africa. Your constant support and appearances at our hotel and matches made us feel invincible, while your humility helped us to realise the responsibility that we shouldered. It is largely through your support that the team's and the country's DREAM became a reality.
One of my fondest memories is of you wearing my Bafana Bafana jersey and handing the trophy over to me. There was no better context for a captain to lead his nation than in the presence and with the support of the nation's greatest leader.
I will always be eternally grateful!
May God always bless you.
